UPDATE: Penn State WebMail2 Outage - Friday, August 11, 2006

As noted in the original post, an unexpected error with the backend filesystem for WebMail2 occurred at approximately 10:15 a.m. on Friday, August 11. ITS staff attempted to recover the filesystem with assistance from the vendor. During the process of the filesystem recovery, some defects were found with the recovery procedure. While the vendor is able to provide a fix for the defects, the fix will not be available until late on Saturday, August 12 or early Sunday, August 13.

ITS has decided to restore the backend filesystem from the backup registered as of 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10. It is expected that the recovery will be completed by 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13. Once the recovery is complete, WebMail2 will be re-enabled.

On Friday, August 11, 2006, ITS experienced an outage with WebMail2. ITS staff have been working since this morning to recover this service. It is estimated that it may take several more hours to get WebMail2 back online. ITS will continue to provide updates as information becomes available. We apologize if this causes you/your staff any inconvenience. Thank you for your patience during this time.
