PASS
Penn State Access Account Storage Space
Overview
PASS is given to all users when they are joined to Penn State e-mail service. Users who do not have e-mail and therefore PASS, can obtain it by visiting an automatic signature station. Other account services also require users to be joined to e-mail.
The default allocation for a user's PASS is 500MB. Users may
increase their own quotas up to 1GB using the "Directory Quotas" tool
under the "Web Accounts" heading on www.work.psu.edu. Additional space
may be purchased for a
nominal fee. PASS is used for a variety of services such as storage
space in ITS Student Computing labs, Personal Web
space and UNIX
Cluster accounts. The Penn State
Portal and Penn State
WebMail also use PASS to store Portal preferences and e-mail
mailboxes respectively. ITS staff advise users to monitor their
available space by checking the quota information via the "Directory
Quotas" section of the ITS Secure
Server.
By using DCE/DFS client software installed on the UNIX Cluster, the native NT Client installed on a personal Windows NT machine, or the PASS Gateway, a user can seamlessly update files located in his/her PASS as if the files were local to his/her computer.
