TSM

TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager) acts as a file backup and archive server for the disk drives of any workstation or personal computer connected to the Internet. TSM runs as a server on the IBM RS/6000 SP under the AIX operating system In addition, TSM supports 25 different platforms as clients and offers disaster recovery and Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM).

TSM is available to Penn State faculty, staff, and departments.

For more information about TSM, please see the Distributed Backup Service (TSM) page.

An ITS Charge Account (formerly a P-Account) must be established for billing purposes. Your usage of TSM in megabytes of storage per year is charged to your ITS Charge Account. Please see cost for the charge per megabyte.

All applicants requesting for-fee or billable services from ITS or requests funded by a departmental fund, a contract, or a grant must have an ITS Charge Account set up through ITS in order for the charges to be billed. Applicants with currently existing ITS Charge Accounts can request TSM services be added to that account by using the TSM Authorization Form form. Applications should be sent in duplicate to the appropriate Dean's office and to the Computer Accounts Office, Room 101 ITS Computer Building. This account will expire on the termination date specified though accounts paid through general funds must be reauthorized each fiscal year. All computer use on this account will be direct billed on a monthly basis in accordance with procedure #CR2069 dated 08/04/1993. When the dollar amount listed on the ITS For-Fee Service Request Form has been exceeded by the account, a notice will be sent to the account supervisor asking for additional funds or if the account should be terminated.

TSM services may be deleted in part or in their entirety from an ITS Charge Account using the TSM Deletion Form. Due to the vital nature of computer backups, TSM services will continue to be billed to ITS Charge Accounts even beyond their expiration date, until TSM services are explicitly cancelled using the TSM Deletion Form.

After the ITS Charge Account is established, you will be sent a password that will allow you access to the TSM server from your personal system (Macintosh, IBM/DOS or compatible, Windows, HP-UX, Novell, AIX, Ultrix, SunOS, and Solaris).
